Bishkek and the North

The north of Kyrgyzstan is truly beautiful! – the Russians know that perfectly well from the days when Kyrgyzstan was part of the Soviet Union. During Soviet times, many Russians spent their holidays at the various tourist resorts located on the shores of magnificent lake Issyk kul. Mountain climbers and hikers are attracted to the valleys between Bishkek and Karakol and to the 3000m high Sungkol lake.

In Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, visitors find many cultural, historical and musical experiences to enjoy. Perhaps the Soviet style Government buildings, wide avenues, and parks impress visitors most of all. It seems each year new hotels spring up from the ground. The city looks fairly modern and international with many shopping opportunities and nightlife. 

Bishkek is very close to some of the best hiking and mountaineering in the North, which makes it an ideal place for day trips to the countryside. An adventure on horseback can be easily booked through one of the many horse trekking organizations. The international airport located nearby has connections with London, Istanbul, Moscow and many other places, making it an attractive destination for tourists from all over the world.

Osh and the South

The headquarters of NTE Travel is located in the southern city of Osh- a city which is older than Rome. Settlers first came to Osh, in the south of Kyrgyzstan, over 3000 years ago. These days the city of 600,000 is a melting pot of many different races. This variety offers a fascinating location for exploring culture, handcrafts and history.

The first settlers didn’t make a bad decision. Osh lies on the edge of the Ferghana valley. Due to its fertile soil, the city is known as the “Cotton Basket”. Because the city is at 1000m above sea level, it is protected from wind and fog. As a result of the 300 days of sunshine a year, many different fruits and vegetables grow: melons, figs, grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers etc. The area is also attractive for tourists because it’s so close to the Alai mountain range. These undisturbed highlands can be explored in many different ways.
